Our Commitment to Accessibility

Backyard Bougie, Inc. is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all visitors — including people with disabilities. We believe every person deserves equal access to information and services, and we have taken deliberate steps to ensure our digital presence reflects that belief.

We continually evaluate and improve our site against recognized accessibility standards and take every reasonable step to resolve barriers as they are identified.

Standards We Follow

This website has been developed and tested to target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the standard most often referenced by U.S. courts in cases involving the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and is widely recognized as the benchmark for accessible web design.

Our accessibility efforts are guided by the four core WCAG principles:

Perceivable

All content and interface components are presented in ways users can perceive, regardless of sensory ability.

Operable

All functionality is accessible via keyboard and assistive technology, not only a mouse.

Understandable

Content and navigation are clear, consistent, and predictable.

Robust

Content is compatible with current and future assistive technologies, including screen readers.

Current Audit Results

As of April 2, 2026, thebackyardbougie.com has documented the following accessibility scores:

Tool Score Standard Date
WAVE (WebAIM) 9.7 / 10 WCAG 2.1 AA April 2, 2026
Google Lighthouse 100 / 100 WCAG 2.1 AA April 2, 2026

Measures We Have Taken

The following specific accessibility improvements have been implemented on this website:

  • Descriptive alternative text added to all meaningful images, including service images, founder photos, and client logos
  • Proper semantic heading structure established across all pages (H1 through H3) to support screen reader navigation
  • All form fields include programmatic labels accessible to assistive technology
  • Skip-navigation link added to allow keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation menus
  • ARIA landmark regions implemented (banner, navigation, main, contentinfo) to support landmark-based navigation
  • Keyboard focus states enforced on all interactive elements with visible, on-brand focus indicators
  • Auto-scrolling content configured to pause on hover and respect system-level reduced-motion preferences
  • All navigation links use descriptive, context-specific anchor text
  • Color contrast ratios verified to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA minimums across all text elements
  • Page language declared to enable correct screen reader pronunciation

Known Limitations

While we have worked carefully on accessibility, two known third-party limitations exist on this site. We disclose them honestly here so visitors and assistive-technology users have the full picture.

1 — reCAPTCHA Widget

Google reCAPTCHA is used on certain forms for spam protection. The widget contains form controls generated by Google's code that we cannot modify. This is a documented accessibility limitation of Google's reCAPTCHA service. We have implemented a descriptive ARIA wrapper around the widget to provide additional context to assistive-technology users, and we continue to monitor Google's reCAPTCHA updates for improved accessibility support.

2 — GoHighLevel Multi-Select Form Widget

Certain forms on this site use a multi-select dropdown widget provided by our website platform, GoHighLevel. This widget generates a role="combobox" element without the required aria-expanded attribute. This is a confirmed bug in GoHighLevel's platform code. A formal bug report was submitted to GoHighLevel on April 3, 2026. Because the widget is rendered and controlled by GoHighLevel's framework, this attribute cannot be added via custom code at the page level. The limitation is outside our control and is pending resolution by GoHighLevel.

We are committed to resolving any additional barriers as they are identified and as technical solutions become available.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

This website has been designed and tested to be compatible with the following:

  • Screen readers including NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), and VoiceOver (Mac and iOS)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • High contrast display modes
  • System-level reduced motion settings (prefers-reduced-motion)
  • Voice control software

Conformance Posture

This site is built and maintained to target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. Our April 2026 audit returned a WAVE score of 9.7 / 10 and a Google Lighthouse Accessibility score of 100 / 100.

Automated tools verify a meaningful portion — though not the entirety — of WCAG 2.1 AA criteria, which is why we treat strong scores as a foundation rather than a finish line. We continue to manually review, test, and improve the site as part of our ongoing commitment to accessible design.

Ongoing Commitment

Accessibility is not a one-time project. Backyard Bougie, Inc. is committed to the following ongoing practices:

  • Re-auditing the site using WAVE and Google Lighthouse on a quarterly basis or whenever significant content changes are made
  • Reviewing all new content, page additions, and third-party integrations for accessibility before publishing
  • Maintaining dated records of all accessibility audits as part of our compliance documentation
  • Training team members responsible for content creation on WCAG 2.1 AA requirements
  • Responding to all user-reported accessibility issues within 2 business days
